Sinus Lifts Provide a Strong Foundation for Dental Implants
Improve Your Jawbone Tissue
If you are interested in dental implants but have been told you lack sufficient jawbone tissue to qualify for the procedure, the board-certified surgeons at Knoxville Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery can perform a sinus lift. This surgical procedure is often paired with a bone graft to ensure your candidacy for dental implants. By creating more room in your upper jaw, we can improve your chances of a successful dental implant placement. Combined, Drs. Turner P. Emery and Dr. Rizzo have many years of experience in oral surgery. At our on-site surgical facility in Knoxville, TN, we perform all aspects of dental implant surgery of dental implant placement, from preliminary procedures to surgical placement.
A sinus lift can create ample room to accommodate a dental implant.
What is a Sinus Lift?
A sinus lift, also known as maxillary sinus floor augmentation, is a procedure that raises the sinus floor and places bone material in the upper jaw. A missing tooth can cause the surrounding bone in your jaw to recede, making it difficult to place an implant in the upper jaw successfully. Often, this bone recession can cause your sinuses to crowd in close to your jaw, leaving little space for implants; in some cases, your anatomy simply does not allow sufficient space. If you have been unable to receive dental implants in the past due to lack of bone, a sinus lift can improve your candidacy and allow you to experience all the benefits this treatment has to offer.
What to Expect
Before the procedure, we will take detailed x-rays and scans to map the unique anatomy of your mouth and tailor treatment to meet your specific needs. This information can also be used to create a surgical guide for the placement of your dental implants.
If you have been unable to receive dental implants in the past due to lack of bone, a sinus lift can improve your candidacy and allow you to experience all the benefits this treatment has to offer.
Before beginning treatment, we will discuss your sedation options during the procedure. To begin, your surgeon will create an incision in the gums and bone in the upper back portion of the jaw. The doctor will then make a small opening that will allow him or her to lift your sinus floor up and away from your jaw. Your doctor will then place bone graft material into the space and close the incision. The bone graft material will integrate with your natural bone during the healing process, creating the base necessary for strong, long-lasting dental implants.
Recovery and Implant Placement
Recovery from a sinus lift will require a number of months before you can undergo dental implant surgery, but this is a crucial step in ensuring that your dental implants do not fail after placement. To ensure you have healed properly, your doctor will review scans to evaluate the treatment area before scheduling your implant surgery.

Testimonials From Our Patients
We are proud to be able to provide our patients with access to first-rate surgical care, cutting-edge procedures, and an overall outstanding experience.
Dr. Emery did a fantastic job in providing tooth extraction and replacement with a dental implant. I had been anxious and he relieved my concerns immediately. He and his team provided a relatively pain-free experience and were available to answer all my questions quickly and professionally. I was so pleased with them that I took my daughter to Dr. Emery for her wisdom teeth extraction. We were both surprised at how well her pain had been managed and she never had to use opioids! If we need oral surgery again, we know where to go! Thank you, Dr. Emery, Dawn, Amanda, Meghan, Hannah, Wendy, and all the others!

Painless procedures and quick recoveries. Couldn’t be more pleased. Highly recommend these oral surgeons.

Dr. Emery and his staff are so amazing. They really go the extra mile to make you comfortable and Dr. Emery’s bedside manner is like none I’ve ever seen before! He’s one of those doctors you hope you don’t have to go back to, but will be the ONLY one I do go to if it’s ever needed again. My only complaint is that he’s not in general dentistry because i wouldn’t be so terrified to go to a dentist if it was him. Great guy, great staff, great atmosphere!
